Why Work With Me?
Finding a therapist with a style and approach that fits your needs can be challenging. You are probably wondering what the work with me will look like, if I can handle the trauma you're bringing to the table, and whether or not you can feel confident in your decision to work with me.
If you want to get a sneak peak at what I'm like to work with, know that even though I am technically a "Doctor," I'll ask you to just call me Asha from day one. I'm another human, just like you. I'm bringing my training and experience, and you are bringing your honesty, vulnerability, and willingness to step outside your comfort zone. Together, we're a team.
My style is structured and highly collaborative. I'm not here just to smile, nod, and passively listen. I'm going to roll up my sleeves and really get in there with you. Over time, we're going to go deep and hash things out. Therapy with me won't always feel good at first, the same way physical therapy for a broken bone doesn't always feel good. But I can promise you this: I believe in what I do and the power of this work, and I've seen firsthand the profound impact therapy can have in getting people back on their feet and fully engaged in their lives.
I have experience providing trauma-focused and trauma-informed care in the community and with veterans. I have worked with adult survivors of childhood sexual and physical abuse, survivors of adult sexual trauma, combat veterans, veterans who experienced military sexual trauma, first responders, survivors of hate crimes, and survivors of natural disasters and other traumatic events. You can rest assured that I have walked this walk into and out of the darkness with others many times, and I know what I'm doing. I will validate you, challenge you, call you on BS when needed, laugh with you, cry with you, and genuinely, at the core of my being, believe in you and in your potential.
